Vision and Hearing Screening has started.  The grades for routine vision screening include:Pre-k, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th. The grades for routine hearing screening include: Pre-k, KDG, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. All students with an IEP, and new students to the district are screened annually.  If you want your student screened and they are not in a sceduled grade, please contact the school nurse.
 
 
 
Professional Eye Exam. All new students to the state of Illinois are required by law to have an eye exam by an optometrist or opthamologist, or sign a vision waiver form if you don't have insurance to cover the cost of a professional eye exam.

Nurses for Schuyler-Industry District # 5  

 

 Nita Carey is a RN, a certified nursing assistant instructor, Illinois Certified School Nurse, and has a Mater's Degree in nursing education.  She is employed full-time and her office is located at Schuyler-Industry Middle School, ext.411

Sheryl Geisler is a RN, associate's degree and is a certified nursing assistant instructor.  She teaches the high school CNA class in the morning and is a part-time school nurse for the middle and high school in the afternoon.  Sheryl's extension is 411.

Sally Trone is a LPN and works part-time at Washington and Webster schools her extension is 209.

 

 

 Guidelines on When to Keep a Sick Student at Home

  1. A student with a temperature of 100.5 degrees or higher should stay at home because this is a good indication the body is fighting infection.
  2. A student should be fever free for 24 hours, without medication before returning to school.
  3. 5th's disease is a rash on the cheeks, arms, and legs.  Students with the rash present may be at school because they are most contagious 24 hours before the rash erupts.  If the student has a fever with the rash, please keep at home.
  4. Pink eye- a student with a red eye may be at school however, if there is drainage student is contagious and will be sent home.  If the student awakens with crusting of eye, see physician and start taking prescription eye drops before returning to school.
  5. A student who has been vomiting should be home 24 hours after the vomiting before returning to school.
  6. Colds- a student with a runny nose and sore throat may be at school, however, if their nose is running constantly and/or coughing profusely, they may be sent home as not to contamminate others.
